Counselor in Training Program
Orca Counselor in Training Program ~~~~~~~ Marin County and Santa Barbara.
Many of our paid counselors began as campers and then moved into the CIT program as teens. What’s involved in our program? A hands-on Natural History Program that integrates our nature immersion with creative activities. We connect with daily/weekly mentoring and encourage just the right amount of responsibility. Students who've completed grades 7, 8 or 9 are eligible for this program. Many high schools require community service hours and Orca Camp may be eligible for your child's requirements.
Sharing stories and planning presentations related to swimming, water games, paddle sports, music (ukulele), land games, arts, crafts, hands-on Natural History form the core of our learning. CPR and First Aid training are necessary for the program. (This training is available throughout the year with the American Red Cross and other organizations.)
Included is a three hour on site orientation on a selected weekday or weekend before camp begins. This orientation takes place in Marin County at China Camp State Park and/or Tomales Bay. This orientation takes place in Santa Barbara at Santa Claus Lane and/or Rincon County Park/Bates Beach. If the CIT is unable to attend orientation we'll make it a complete hands-on training during the camp week.
The weekly fee for this CIT program is on a sliding scale ($150-250). To apply, simply fill out our online registration form and add CIT after the CIT's name. In a separate note, the CIT may write about the activities they'd be eager to share with the campers, i.e. water sports, arts & crafts, games & music, nature activities, marine biology or whatever seems appropriate with our campers and our mission; have fun, stay safe, make new friends.
